Many will approach the New Year like they read the book the secret. They will think about greatness and change for a bit and hope that the universe will deliver it to them. I am hoping that you are not one of those. In order to have change you have to be the change gang.
This past year has been one of extraordinary change for me. Just over a year ago I lived what I thought was a fairy tale life. I won’t go into detail but my perception of the magical combination was clearly not the same for my counter part. The huge difference in perception led to an extremely hard fall. For those that have had heart ache you understand. For those that have not I will equate it to having that scary feeling that you have in the pit of your stomach in stressful situations every day for a year constantly. It is not fun and only you have the ability to change it. Time with action heals all. Time and action not just one, remember.
I have also witnessed some of my friends that I considered the oxen of the business world crumble with the economy. It is a shocking experience to see someone that you have always admired and considered the stable figure of what success is turn into a scared college kid with huge debt. It is humbling to look around and say everyone here is on an equal playing field now….not really what you had always thought, eh.
The stability of the past few decades has allowed for a comfort that was just assumed to be passed on from generation to generation. Many people are having to start over at the age of 40 and above. It has been so long for so many that they have forgotten that they indeed had to do something to get where they were and they can do it again. People are resilient they just have to remember that they need to go back to being that kid that got them where they wanted to be. Why not look at it as a chance to start a new life. That can be very exciting instead of totally scary.
Here is a thought for all of you out there who are experiencing some kind of hardship whether it is in relationships, work, or any other kind of hardship.
YOU WILL BE OK IF INDEED YOU CHANGE.
I am not going to push Religion here but let’s just say whatever you believe, be it Jesus, God, Allah, the Universal Energy, or Mother Nature itself, that source just may be correcting you.
What if the cushy life had you not thinking anymore…what if you were not doing what you are here to do…what if you are destined for something and you got off track?
Perhaps you stopped challenging yourself! Perhaps you are not using the talents in your life that helped not only you but also many around you succeed. What if you are hurting now because you are not helping someone else?
Change is the ultimate answer to such issues gang. If you are in a rut change is the only way out. If your world has been turned upside down you can change it. This world has a magical way of balancing itself and correcting itself when things just seem to be out of whack. Instead of lying down and giving in why not realize that you can change and have what you want. Remember, you need to be the change.
You can have a great year if indeed you embrace that fact that you need to be the reason for it. Change is tough and that is a reality but it is needed. Go for it. Do something about it. And be great. You deserve to be happy and you can find that happiness again if indeed it is missing right now. I believe in you.
Here are a few tid bits that might help.
Suggestions:
1) If you are hurting maybe you need to give something away. Only you can figure out what that is.
2) Get out of your house. No matter how hard it is to get out of bed. Lying around will get you nowhere.
3) Go to the gym no matter what every day for an hour.
4) Stop reading the paper and watching the news. It does absolutely no good for you.
5) Start keeping a pen and pad with you at all times and write down even the craziest funny ideas that pop into your head. Look at the book every night and see if any of them produce a new idea or new approach that will help your current business.
6) GET A PUPPY! They show you how easy it is to be happy.
7) Get on your Computer and Open up Excel and Create a Business Plan for 2009.
Go out and Dance just to dance…no one really cares how bad you are. It feels good.
9) Go for a walk in the rain with no umbrella and smile and enjoy it.
10) Stop watching dark and scary senseless killing movies. There is enough trash in the world already. You don’t need the extra programming.
11) Give yourself a break. Hug someone for no reason except you need to.
12) Find a local bar that has show tunes and go and have fun. You don’t have to worry about being laughed at there. If you need help finding one pick up your local gay news paper and look in events section. You will find several. And it is ok to go if you are straight they won’t rub off on ya, I promise!
Today is a brand new day. You are allowed to be happy but sometimes you have to go out and work for it a bit. Don’t be scared to be a kid again. Life is about challenging yourself and creating new happiness for yourself and others. Go out and do it. I know you can and if you don’t think anyone else does just remember I believe in you. I believe that all of you can be GREAT. I believe you are destined for it. You just have to go out and get it.

Wes – Thank you for being so open. These are great thoughts and advice in a time when people really need a mindset shift. It is easy to loose that dream quality and confidence that leads to self determination. Creative thoughts backed by action can change any situation. I don’t think any of us really know what the landscape is going to look like when the dust settles and the new reality reveals itself, but I do know from a micro-view we have the ability to adapt and change our circumstances – it has happened since the dawn of time.
You offer 12 great action steps here and acted upon they can lead to a transformation in 2009 and beyond.
Happy New Year!
